Twinning of Banwell School and Dipshikha scool

Banwell Primary School is a small, vibrant village school in the South West of England to the south of Bristol and close to the seaside town of Weston-Super-Mare. The school has around 160 pupils, ranging in age from 4 to 11 year olds.

The children at Dipshihka School are particularly keen to practice their English and share the story of how their school was rebuilt after the earthquake. They certainly have quite a story to tell!

Dipshikha School is a small rural school of around 124 primary aged pupils in the village of Rabi Opi in Nepal, some 35 kilometres east of Kathmandu. The school was totally destroyed in the 2015 earthquake and, although a few classrooms had been rebuilt up until the first half of 2021 the majority of pupils were still being taught in temporary and totally inadequate structures. With the support of the Shiva Charity and generous benefactors in the UK, the school has now been completely rebuilt including the construction of a new three-classroom block, a new two-classroom block and a new modern toilet block.

Although separated by around 4,500 miles, both schools share a real passion for education. Banwell School and Dipshika School have now entered into an informal twinning arrangement where pupils and staff from both schools have the opportunity to learn about each other's lives and cultures, to the benefit of the children in both schools.

Shiva Charity will be helping facilitate communication between Banwell School and Dipshihka School and we look forward to a long and mutually beneficial twinning relationship. Pupils from both schools are very enthusiastic to make contact with their peers and to be able to share their stories and experiences.
